1 "The achievements of an organization are the results of the combined effort of each individual."
-Vince Lombardi Cooperative Exchange was launched as a not-for-profit organization in September 2002 by the nation’s leading electronic healthcare transaction companies. Members are industry colleagues that share a common goal to expand the delivery of HIPAA-defined transactions to the nation’s healthcare payers – large and small.

2 MISSION STATEMENT Cooperative Exchange seeks to expand the delivery of HIPAA-defined transactions to the nation’s healthcare payers, through shared access and the promotion of connectivity that will enhance competition for healthcare transaction services in the marketplace. Our mission is to simplify payer connectivity to a larger universe of providers. Members are “friendly competitors” that vie for market share but recognize the value of collaboration.

3 Answering Payer Needs Industry leaders recognize the value of a coalition to: Simplify payer connectivity to a larger universe of providers Increase volume of HIPAA-defined transactions while easing burdensome requirements Expand market connectivity Enhance competition for healthcare transaction services in the marketplace Facilitate seamless, optimal information exchange This is a pro-active organization that will be seeking additional ways to bring more efficiency to the industry and ease the efforts of all players, both payers and providers.

4 Founding Members Member companies are industry leaders, recognizable names, that deliver payer connectivity with providers nationwide. Collectively, they represent a significantly larger volume of provider transactions to payers than they could as individual companies.

5 Founding Members Members are connected to each other.
Payers connect with one or more members and gain access to an expanded provider base. This is the key value: open access to a significant number of providers via a connection to one or more Cooperative Exchange members.

6 Founding members represent a collective annual volume of
OVER 750 MILLION healthcare transactions from physicians and hospitals nationwide. Our collective volume is quite impressive … and growing.

7 VALUE TO PAYERS

8 ENHANCED ACCESS Value to Payers
A direct connection with one or more members establishes a gateway to other member companies. Shared network access and member connectivity open the gateway for payers.

9 SIMPLIFY CONNECTIVITY
Value to Payers The Cooperative Exchange is making it simple, straightforward and uncomplicated. “Go live” with one or more trading partners, and minimize the need for multiple new connections.

10 BOOST VOLUME Value to Payers
The Cooperative Exchange is a single entity that includes multiple companies. Taken together, our members can deliver a larger volume of provider transactions to payers than each company could bring as an individual entity. Collectively, members deliver a larger volume of provider transactions.

11 MEET HIPAA CHALLENGES Value to Payers
Payers leverage the Cooperative Exchange to accelerate their ROI on HIPAA initiatives. As a result of expanded access, payers speed the rate at which they realize their return on investment for HIPAA projects.

12 Membership Criteria Process fewer than 250 million HCFA1500 and UB92 claims annually Adopt the organization’s charter Have at least one direct participating payer connection to make available to members Pay membership fee: $5,000 Many companies are showing strong interest in membership. This anticipated growth and additional transaction volume will bring even greater value to payers.
