1 Directions Make 2 groups, boys against girls and then even out the lines You will be racing against each other to collect as many paper squares as you can. Take a piece of masking tape and wrap it around your pointer finger, but flip it inside out so the sticky side is out. Almost like applying an inside out band-aid to the tip of your pointer finger. 1 person from each group will go when I say start. Use your non-dominant hand and cover 1 of your eyes. When I say start race to the back of the room to your respective table covered in newspaper and use your sticky finger to grab 1 of the squares of paper. You will have 30 seconds to get through as many people as you can. This will be a relay, so the next person in line can’t go until the last person is back. Once the 30 seconds are up we will stop and discuss our results. Leave the piece of paper on your sticky finger until all the data is collected.

2 Purpose Look at the squares. Lets record our findings.
What a strange activity, what do you think the point of it was? Look at the squares. Lets record our findings. What observations can you make from the data? What inferences can you make from this? What does this have to do with evolution? Predator eye location and depth perception Competition between students Natural selectin and adaptions for camouflage News Squares White Squares Total Boys Girls

3 Observable Evolution Peppered Moths
Sometimes a species is forced to make changes as a direct result of human disturbance. Such is the case with the peppered moth (Biston betularia). Up until the Industrial Revolution, these moths were typically white with black spots, although they were found in a variety of shades. As the Industrial Revolution reached its peak in the late 1800’s, the air in London became full of soot, and the once-white trees and buildings that moths used for camouflage became stained black. The birds began to eat more of the lighter-colored moths because they were more easily spotted than the darker ones. Thus, through natural selection the moth color changed.
