Satire Blends humor with criticism Recipe= humor, criticism, moral voice Purpose- expose wrong, outdated, silly, or harmful behavior to cause change

Parody mimics/criticizes another work exaggeration/mocking

Purpose-Pointing out weaknesses, frailties, or humorous aspects

Exaggeration Go to the extreme- make all good or all bad
Purpose- to show the silliness of an idea

Sarcasm say the opposite of what is intended (verbal irony)
Purpose-hide the insult/criticism behind humor so it is not as upsetting

Utopia & Dystopia perfect world- give an ideal for others to copy
