The School Family Children spend 6-7 hours in school, 180+ days each year To be successful, children need relationships with people they spend much of their time Each child is unique and brings varied experiences to school The school family promotes children’s connections to each other and to their teachers

Shared Ownership In the early learning classroom, children
share and give each other information recognize they play a key role in their learning make real choices about how they will learn understand why they are learning

Leadership In the early learning classroom, children
take responsibility for their classroom recognize they can help others Share their ideas and suggestions know they have a voice that is heard

Collaboration In the early learning classroom, children
engage in the learning experience ask and answer questions participate in authentic learning experiences work and cooperate with their peers to make decisions

Challenge The early learning classroom experiences are designed to challenge children to learn, persists and take risks. The teachers adjust the complexity of activities to build competence and confidence of young learners. Challenges prompt children to Solve problems Think critically Apply skills and knowledge

Research & Create The early learning classroom experiences are designed to encourage children to research topics of interests and create representations of their thinking. The teachers allow children to use their newly acquired knowledge in various ways. To research and create, children engage in inquiry to gather information use materials innovatively apply knowledge to new situations

Communicate The early learning classroom experiences are designed to encourage children to communicate. Teachers recognize language is the foundation of all learning and establish language-rich environments that support both oral and written communication. To communicate, children express ideas develop a rich vocabulary connect written and spoken language

Reflect & Grow The early learning classroom experiences are designed to support children’s reflection on their learning. Teachers engage children in examining how they have changed and grown in their developing of knowledge and skills. To reflect and grow, children make connections reason and refine thinking record and document their knowledge
