2
Systems Analysis and Design
Systems Analysis (SA) is the process of understanding and specifying in details what the concerned system should accomplish Systems Design (SD) is the process to define and describe in detail how the components of the modified/developed system should be physically implemented Systems Analyst (SAn) is a professional who uses analysis and design techniques to solve systems’ problems
3
Analyst’s Approach to Problem Solving
Research and understand the problem Verify benefits of solving problem against its costs Define the requirements for solving the problem Develop a set of possible solutions (alternatives) Decide which solution is best and recommend Define the details of the chosen solution Implement the solution Monitor to ensure desired results
4
Systems and Engineering
Systems and Engineering has three forms System Engineering System Re-engineering System Reverse Engineering

System Engineering The function of systems enginee ring is to guide the development of systems.
6
System Engineering Focuses on the system as a whole;
Concerns the customer needs and operational environment; Leads system conceptual design; and Bridges traditional engineering disciplines and gaps between specialties.
7
System Re-engineering
The function of systems re- enginee ring is to redesign the systems to update and modify for enhancement
8
System Re-engineering
Focuses on the system faults or drawbacks Concerns the changes in customer/users needs and in operational environment Manages the required changes in system conceptual design Goes beyond the traditional engineering disciplines
9
System Reverse Engineering
The function of systems reverse enginee ring is to initiate the design from the end user product(s)/ system(s)
10
System Reverse Engineering
Focuses on the origin of the end user product(s)/system(s) Concerns the product(s)/system(s) that has no available design documents Manages the processes of reverse function, components, requirements analysis to develop the initial drawings and design documents
11
Systems Engineering Aspects
12
Systems Engineering Fields
Systems engineering includes or overlaps with many related fields including engineering management, operations analysis, architectures, modeling and simulation, and many more.
