2. Folk Art
Folk art is a term invented by 19th century Christians to describe quaint and rustic art forms
It’s very specific to different cultures which makes it hard to define
The difference between folk art and fine art is that fine art focuses more on aesthetic and is taught through rigorous formal instruction and training while folk art discusses one’s culture in a deeper more raw manner and the artists are self-taught.
Picasso was inspired by African tribal sculptures and masks.

3. Grandma Moses
Grandma Moses was an American folk artist well known for her paintings. She only started painting in earnest at the age of 78 and had arthritis in her hands. Due to the arthritis she trained herself to paint with both her right and her left hand so she could switch when it started to get painful. One of her most famous paintings “Sugaring Off” sold at 1.2 million dollars.

4. Grant Wood and Regionalism
Grant Wood was an American painter who is best known for his painting “American Gothic.” Wood used his sister and his dentist as the models for this painting. He was associated with the rise of Regionalism, a midwestern art movement of painting rural, realistic American themes in rejection of European abstract art.

5. Andrew Wyeth
Andrew Wyeth was a primarily realist U.S. painter who loved painting and gaining inspiration from the people and scenery around him. He is also a known regionalist artist and one of his most popular paintings is “Christina’s World” which is an egg tempura piece he did when he was 31 years old. Tempura is a painting medium that uses egg yolk as a binder for pigment.
