Search tips
9
Search styles SPIRES-style Invenio keyword style
Searching is activated by starting your search with "find" or simply "f“ Searches indexes Example = find a e cremmer and aff ecole normale superieure Invenio keyword style Can combine index searching and free-text searching Index searching uses ‘:’ Example = quark author:‘parke, s’
11
Words versus phrases Wildcards
muon decay searches for the words muon and decay ‘muon decay’ searches for the phrase muon decay Wildcards Use the asterisk (*) as a wildcard character CERN-TH*31 searches for report numbers CERN-TH , CERN-TH , CERN-THESIS , etc.
12
Boolean queries Combine search terms and phrases with ‘and’, ‘or’, and ‘not’, or ‘+’, ‘|’, and ‘-’ Operations are automatically chained left to right Parentheses can be used to group Boolean expressions together Examples: Muon or kaon and ellis Records written by Ellis on muons or kaons Ellis and muon or kaon Records on muons written by Ellis or documents about kaons Muon or kaon and ellis -decay Records written by Ellis on muons or kaons, but exclude documents on decay (gravity OR supergravity) AND (ellis OR perelstein) Records containing either gravity or supergravity, and either ellis or perelstein anywhere in the record.
13
Range and greater than/less than searches
Use -> searches for an inclusive range date:2003->2005 returns records with a date from 2003, 2004, and 2005 Searches using > or < are exclusive of the date specified Find d > returns records with a date from August to present Find d < 1960 returns records with a date from 1959 and earlier > and < can only be used in SPIRES-style searches
14
Display formats and sorting
Change the display format of the results using the drop down menu next to the search box Change the order in which the results are listed using the drop down menus below ‘Sort by’ Change the number of results displayed on a page using the drop down menu below ‘Display results’

HEPNames record
17
You can also get to the author profile by clicking on the author’s name in the brief or detailed record of a paper.
18
Linked author profile

Unlinked HEPNames record
20
Finding an author profile
21
Unlinked author profile
22
Making edits to author profile
23
Log in with arXiv If you choose to log in to edit your profile, you will be redirected to the arXiv website. There you can use your arXiv username and password (or create a new account).
24
Claiming an author profile
You will be redirected back to INSPIRE automatically after logging in. Please, choose the best match. If none of them matches your publication list wholly, select the closest match and add the missing publications in a later step.
25
Linking a profile to a HEPNames record
Unlinked profiles will list suggested related HEPNames records under ‘Personal Details’ If the correct HEPNames record is already attached to a different profile, you can merge the two profiles Otherwise, click the name of the correct HEPNames record
26
Linking a profile to a HEPNames record
27
Creating a new HEPNames record
First check the suggested HEPNames records, and do a search in HEPNames to see if you can find a record that can be associated with the profile To create a new HEPNames record, click ‘Create One’. This link will take you to INSPIRE Labs, where you will sign in using ORCID and fill out a form with the author’s name and affiliation details

31
Manage publications
32
Claim, reject, or assign single papers to another person
33
You can also manage multiple publications at once
34
Search for specific publications in a profile using the search box
35
Claiming papers to a profile
36
Attribute a paper to an author profile
Find the paper you want to attribute to a particular author in HEP search and click ‘Attribute this paper’
37
Attribute a paper to an author profile
Search for the profile you want to attribute the paper to and click ‘Assign paper’
38
Manage profile
39
Combine multiple author profiles
40
Find the other profiles you want to merge and click ‘Add to merge list’
The profile at the top of the merge list is the ‘primary profile’, or the profile that will remain. All other profiles will disappear and the publications will transfer to the remaining profile A profile name with a yellow circle beside it is a profile that has been claimed by an author through their arXiv login. Always choose this profile to as the primary profile When you are finished, click ‘Merge profiles’.

Additions and Corrections to literature
42
Suggest a paper missing from INSPIRE
43
Correcting reference lists
If a citation of your paper isn’t being counted and you know both papers are in INSPIRE, find the paper that should include your paper in its reference list and click ‘References’
45
Choose how the reference list should be corrected
46
Correct citations manually in the text boxes
47
Non-reference corrections
