2 Common Misconceptions
I don’t dance outside of school … Dance is just for girls I already dance outside of school … Contemporary dance, is that like being a tree? Yeah, that’ll be an easy option! I bet it’s just like doing the Macarena every lesson

3 Course Breakdown: Practical 60%, Theory 40%
Physical skills include: Action Posture Balance Co-ordination Flexibility Stamina Technical skills include: Dynamics Rhythm Timing Expressive skills include: Projection Focus Facial expression Performance: 30% Students perform 3 selected dance phrases (1 – 1 ½ mins) Students perform a duet/trio based on the 3 phrases (3 ½ - 5 mins) What is assessed? Physical, technical and expressive skills

4 Course Breakdown: Practical 60%, Theory 40%
Dance must include creativity and originality from original stimulus Choreography: 30% - Students can choose to choreograph a solo or group dance - Must respond to a choice of stimulus from a prescribed list set by AQA - This can be in any style

5 Course Breakdown: Practical 60%, Theory 40%
Examination (1 ½ hours) 3 sections: A – Related to a given stimulus B – Relating to students own experience of performance and choreography C – related to an anthology of works Knowledge and understanding of: Choreographic processes Performance skills Analysis and evaluation of own work and professional works
