3. I. Nixon Triumphs
Nixon won on a promise to restore law and order and in vague terms promised to end the war.
George Wallace also ran which helped Nixon win.

5. II. Southern Strategy
Nixon developed a strategy to bring the Wallace voters into the Republican Party.
1) This included slowing down integration and taking a stand against busing to further school integration.

6. III. Vietnamization
Nixon called for a withdrawal of US troops as the South Vietnamese take a more active role.
Nixon began to pull troops out of Vietnam but continued to wage war.

Protestors burnt down the ROTC building
The National Guard was called in, they shot and killed four people.
2. Jackson State- National guard killed 2 more protestors
B) The Silent Majority supported the National Guard

10. VI. The 26th Amendment Lowered the voting age to 18.
Anti-war protest led by college students was the catalyst for this amendment.

The Pentagon Papers were leaked which showed that the government was already making plans to invade Vietnam when Johnson was promising not to send troops.

To fight inflation caused by Great Society and war spending Nixon introduced price controls and took the dollar off of the gold standard.
