THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE BY FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2014
Brainstorm What questions can I ask that would make the world a better place? List 5 problems in the world and mindmap questions about them with your neighbor. THIS IS A GRADE!

Front of your Composition Notebook
Your Name Project Title address In case you lose your notebook

Layout of Your Notebook

Problem PLEASE MAKE SURE TO GET YOUR PROJECT QUESTION APPROVED BY THE TEACHER. Examples These are examples of good science fair project questions: How does water purity affect surface tension? When is the best time to plant soy beans? Which material is the best insulator? How does arch curvature affect load carrying strength? How do different foundations stand up to earthquakes? What sugars do yeast use?

Research Source(s) YOU WILL NEED 5 RESEARCH SOURCES. ONLY 4 MAY BE FROM AN INTERNET SOURCE. MLA Format Bibliography will be written here. Please make sure you are using MLA format. MLA is indented after the first line. Skip a line before you start your summary. Summaries need to be in your own words and no more than one page.

Example of MLA Format "Science and Engineering Project Laboratory Notebooks." Science and Engineering Project Laboratory Notebooks. N.p., n.d. Web. 16 Nov Angeli, E., Wagner, J., Lawrick, E., Moore, K., Anderson, M., Soderlund, L., & Brizee, A. (2010, May 5). General format. Retrieved from

Hypothesis The question that you select for your science fair project is the cornerstone of your work. The research and experiment you will be conducting all revolve around finding an answer to the question you are posing. It is important to select a question that is going to be interesting to work on and a question that is specific enough to allow you to find the answer with a simple experiment. A scientific question usually starts with: How, What, When, Who, Which, Why, or Where. Here are some characteristics of a good science fair project question: The question should be interesting enough to read about, then work on for the next couple months. There should be at least 5 sources of written information on the subject. You want to be able to build on the experience of others!

Materials Make a list of the materials needed to complete the experiment. Include Brand names Sizes and Amounts used BE SPECIFIC!

Procedures Write the procedures that you will follow to conduct your experiment. Be detailed enough that someone else could follow your procedure and conduct your experiment the same way you plan to conduct it. If you find your procedure on the internet, be sure to list the source in your bibliography.

Procedures Number each step. Do NOT write your procedure in a paragraph. Start each step with an “action” verb. Some common action verbs Pour Measure Heat Fill Add Record Stir Repeat

Procedures Do NOT use transition words such as FIRST, SECOND, NEXT or FINALLY. Get straight to the point and be specific. Don’t assume that anyone else “knows” what to do. Be sure to state an amount (volume or mass) as you are adding, pouring, or mixing substances. For example: 75 mL of water, or 2 grams of salt

Mistakes

Data Create a blank data table for your experiments in your composition notebook. Be sure to include a descriptive title, two variables and the units used. For example: (variables) time, temperature, color, or distance (units) Fahrenheit, grams, centimeters

Data THIS IS WHERE YOU WILL RECORD YOUR DATA AS YOU CONDUCT YOUR EXPERIMENT.

Observations Note all conditions or observations that could help you to interpret your data later. Anything you notice while doing your experiment can go here.

Conclusion THIS SHOULD TELL THE TALE OF YOUR RESEARCH PROJECT.

Acknowledgements Be sure to THANK anyone that helped you to complete your Science Fair Project. You may leave a small note of thanks or just include their name.

After School Help Mrs King is available everyday after school Monday – Thursday from 4pm- 5pm

me any questions You can me anytime and I will respond as quick as possible.
