4. All ages, all of us in the Bobcat Family, can enjoy Summer Reading – adults can, too. Click on summer reading. Click on your age group. Fill out the form.

Listen! Download an audiobook or check out a book on CD at your favorite CCPL branch and earn a point per page in the standard print edition.
Participate! CCPL’s hosting several literacy-based activities all summer to help you earn points toward prizes.
CCSD has recently added 528 new books in Myon and Mackinvia – the digital apps in Clever that contain your CCSD library books for reading beyond our requirements. Please let Ms. Allegood know if you need help or your students need help accessing these books for the summer. We can schedule a short mini-lesson during enrichment or Character Ed.– sixth period.
You can also find suggested summer reading lists from Library Media Services at CCSD on the media page on our school website for guidance on what to read, if you need it, after you complete your assigned reading.

6. The missions, as you can see on the ccpl
The missions, as you can see on the ccpl.org website, will be included as part of their ELA grade for next year. Please also see your one page handout, provided. Students will be required to hand in a hard copy of their missions to their ELA teacher in the fall.
When you register and log your reading on the ccpl.org website, you are entered into drawings for prizes, can participate in activities, and the data comes to our school in the fall.
As you know, studies show that students who read over the summer do not suffer from a drop in academic gains the way students who don’t read do.

7. Our school’s ELA requirement Missions for credit here and rewards at CCPL:
Summer Reading Assignments to Be Turned in the First Week of School to Your English Teacher (Choose 1 mission and complete online log):
Mission: Write an original book review of any one book that you log on your summer reading log as completed.  This review must be written reflecting the contents of a novel or a graphic novel.  Magazine articles and other shorter works may not be used for this assignment. The review must include a summary of plot, theme, setting, a description of the main characters, and a detailed analysis of conflict and its impact on the development of the plot.
Mission: Watch a movie based on one of the books you have read for summer reading. The book must be logged on your reading log as one you have completed during the summer. Write a comparison contrast essay detailing how the two differ and are similar. Conclude your essay with a paragraph that gives your critique of which of the two was more appealing to you. Give reasons to support why you chose the one over the other.
Mission: Create a drawing or painting inspired by one of the books you have completed during the period June 1- July 31. Write a brief two paragraph explanation giving the relevance of your artistic portrayal to one (1) specific element in your book. That element could be setting, characterization, conflict, plot, or resolution that you choose to illustrate.
A completed reading log (the online log provided by Charleston County Public Library) inclusive of any summer reading text that you completed.
