GRADE 6TH, 7TH, AND 8TH  
ORAL INTERVIEWS FOR A PURPOSE: LIFE INTERVIEWS

2. The Why…
Research has shown that the more connections a person has in their life the more successful they may become.  These exhibitions will focus on life interviews with a different chosen focus for each student at each grade level.
To encourage the development of a mentor relationship between the student and their Life Interview subject.
To understand the importance of reflecting on life, its lessons and how we can learn and change from those experiences.
To identify possible college and career choices and determine the steps necessary to get to that goal.

3. The How Exhibition Focus by Grade Level
6TH GRADE: LIFE LESSONS
7TH GRADE: LIFE LESSON-HOW CHOICES IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL CAN HAVE A POSITIVE OR A NEGATIVE IMPACT ON FUTURE EDUCATION.
8TH GRADE –LIFE LESSON- HOW CHOICES HAVE LED THEM DOWN A ROAD THAT THEY ARE EITHER THANKFUL FOR OR REGRET.

4. The When Practice Presentations will begin May15th in Advisory.
Presentations are the week of May 30th.
These are minimum days!
Students will receive a presentation time and a judging time.

5. 6th Grade FOCUS- Life Lessons Questions are provided in packet
Students will include a thesis (focus) on the person they have chosen, why that person was chosen, and what lessons they can/have learned from their interview subject.
Students will apply what they have learned from their interview subject to their own life.

6. 7th Grade
FOCUS- Life Lesson: How choices in middle school and high school can have a positive or a negative impact on future education.
Students will need to select a junior or senior in high school who is preparing for college or a current college student. (University, Colleges and Junior Colleges will be accepted)
Some interview questions are provided in the Exhibition Packet, however you may need to help guide your students if they need more questions.
Students will include a thesis (focus) on the person they have chosen, why that person was chosen, and what lessons they can/have learned from their interview subject.
Students will apply what they have learned from their interview subject to their own academic choices that they will face as they move into high school.

7. 8th Grade
FOCUS-  The life lesson to be learned is how choices have led them down a road that they are either thankful for or regret.  Parents are not allowed to be interview subjects.
Students will need to choose an adult who has a career, whether by choice or by circumstance.  You will focus on their choice and what they would do differently if they were able to make a different choice for their career.
Teachers have been given interview questions, but students are not provided questions in the Exhibition Packet. You will need to help guide your students if they need ideas for questions.
Students will include a thesis (focus) on the person they have chosen, why that person was chosen, and what lessons they can/have learned from their interview subject.
Students will apply what they have learned from their interview subject to their own academic choices that they will face as they move into high school and beyond

8. Rubric (changes to habits 3, 4 and 5)

Student thoroughly explains, understands and articulates the importance of the person they used for their Life Lesson interview using more than two examples.

Student should answer all of the following ?s within his/her presentation (ask them if not covered): • What do you now know about your subject from going through the interview process? • What was your intention for this project? • How can you apply what you have learned to your own life?

Student thoroughly covers life lessons learned. Incorporates more than two meaningful and relevant examples.
Student adequately covers life lessons learned. Gives two relevant and appropriate examples.
Student covers some life lessons learned. Gives one basic example.
Student is unable to demonstrate life lesson learned. Does not provide an example.
Student should answer all of the following ?s within his/her presentation (ask them if not covered): •What life lessons did you learn from your interview subject? • What did you learn about how life lessons can affect people and their goals? or What did you learn about preparing for life after graduation? or What did you learn about making career choices? • What is a life interview? What makes a good interview?

Student uses excellent eye contact, body language, and speaks loudly and clearly. The PowerPoint slides are professionally done. Presentation is well planned out, flows smoothly and is exciting to watch.

NOTE: Passing in this habit = 2 or higher In addition, for this quality student should be able to answer this question: • How does your visual aid reflect what you have learned from this project?

9. Exhibition Calendar Checkpoints and Deadlines
We will have 2 hours of Advisory Class time to work on this project.
Laptop carts will have a specific schedule. Refer to the Master Calendar for Dates
All documents will be accessible on Google Drive and you will receive an invitation later today for access.
If there is a suggestion, edit, change or comment that should be made, please write it on your master copy. I will be asking for those at the end of this year’s Exhibitions to review for next year.
**Parents and sibling are not allowed to be interview subjects

10. Grading All grades will be entered into the gradebook in ADVISORY
IMPORTANT:
Exhibition is worth 10 points for each check-in as listed above:
80 pts. total
-40 points in Q3
-40 Points in Q4)
-Passing presentation the first time 20 points.
