MSPB Water conservation
As I mentioned, I’m the Chairman of Mississippi Soybean Promotion Board One of the priorities of the board is water efficiency and sustainability A few years ago MSPB launched the Sustainable Irrigation Project, or SIP. The purpose of the project is to promote the adoption of sustainable irrigation practices. We are working to help preserve the Mississippi River alluvial aquifer which many of us use to irrigate our crops. Through SIP and the irrigation research we fund, we’ve been able to increase farmer awareness about sustainable irrigation practices. Up on the screen, you can see just two examples of our efforts. These graphics are meant to help you and other farmers become more aware of the benefits of soil moisture sensors and other irrigation tools. Also, last year, MSPB partnered with the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board and Delta Plastics to create a how-to video on Pipe Planner. We understand that learning a new program can be difficult, and this video really takes the guesswork out of furrow irrigation. (Personal comments about the video) I highly encourage you to watch the video if you have any questions regarding the program. You can watch it on our website MSSOY dot org. Which brings me to my next slide…

The MSPB website, MS SOY dot org contains a wealth of soybean production information. (Personal comments about the website, what you use/visit when you go to the site) You can search on a variety of topics, including irrigation, insects, diseases, planting, soil and weed control. These resources and tools are designed to equip farmers with information to prepare for planting, growing and harvesting soybeans to maximize yields. We gather information from a variety of sources including Mississippi State and nearby research institutions to make sure the most up-to-date information is always available. I highly encourage you to visit the site and take a look at the information that is available, because there is a good chance it will come in handy when your farmers have a soybean production question. Also, if you wish to receive s from MSPB, please visit the website to subscribe. On the top of the webpage you should see a “subscribe” button. Enter your there and start receiving quarterly production-related newsletters.
