Punctuation- Quick activity
Last summer I went on a fast rollercoaster and it was so exciting. Afterwards I went home and ate chips. I burnt my mouth because they were too hot. I said “ouch”. What did you do last summer. Which full stops should be question or exclamation marks?
12
Punctuation Encourage children to read their writing and think about where the reader needs to take a break- this is where the full stop goes. Write sentences without full stops- ask your child to add the full stops. Encourage them to use exclamation and question marks where appropriate. The more your child reads the more they will understand the significance of punctuation.
13
Suffixes A suffix is a group of letters added to the end of a word (root word) to create a new word. E.g. wonder + ful = wonderful dark + ness = darkness help + less = helpless equip + ment = equipment quick + ly = quickly

Ask them to use the new words in sentences.
18
Two stages of reading 1) Being able to read the words using phonic knowledge (decoding). 2) Understanding what they are reading (comprehension). Stage 1- Decoding Stage 2-Comprehension
19
End of year 2 Objectives Read words aloud quickly and accurately.
Sound out unfamiliar words accurately. Read most words containing suffixes. Read over 90 words per minute. Answer questions on the basis of what is being said and done. Understand the features of both fiction and non-fiction texts. Evidence an understanding of what they read (comprehension).
20
Stage 1- Decoding Please make sure your child reads every night.
Encourage them to read aloud to improve their fluency and accuracy. Please use Bug Club. The more they read the more fluent they will become.
21
Stage 2- Comprehension Children should be able to answer questions about a story they have read to show their understanding. “Why did this happen?” “Why do you think the character was feeling this way? How do you know?” “Which words tell us the character was feeling sad?”

Reading- Quick Activity
Though it is one of the faded memories of my life today, there are times when I remember his face clearly, especially his eyes. As he had yellow spots on his eyes we called him spotty. He would have been a stray dog, until, he came to me. It was a cold dark night. We had our meal and went to sleep. Somehow in the midnight I heard a loud thud outside the main door. I mustered courage and peeped out through the window adjoining the door and I was really amused with what I saw outside. I went out and felt those refreshing raindrops with a cool breeze on my face.
