1 TCU-PROJECT: 7TH Semester Course
In this semester, you will use all the knowledge you have gained from previous semesters of this TCU-project to complete an assignment in connection with bidding for and construction of a multi-storey building As the basis for the assignment, you will be given a set of tender documents, comprising: 3D Revit model of the building you will work with in this assignment An invitation to tender Bidding forms, on which you will fill-in your bids Rough written specifications of building works, which will supplement your 3D model An outline time schedule for the project

2 What is your role in this assignment (who are you in this assignment)?
You are the contractor who has to bid for and execute the construction project The form of procurement is Main Contracting (Prime Contracting)

3 What will you be judged on at the exam?
Project Bidding (your ability to estimate the cost of the project on the basis of the tender document, i.e., the 3D model, specifications, etc.) Project Bidding and Contract Management (your ability to understand the processes involved with bidding, negotiation and establishment of the contract between client and contractor) Project Cost Planning and Control (your ability to plan construction activities and identify the executed cost values during a simulated construction phase, and implement the payment to the contractor for works done ) Engineering Information Management (your ability to summarize and explain what you´ve done during the course of the project, e.g., identify the necessary design of the construction site, and deal with issues such as health and safety, quality assurance, and other information pertaining to economy, etc., during the construction process) 6. Apart from the above, the following will also be evaluated: Attendance in the classroom (register is taken 2 time a day) Language skills Your presentation and presentations skills Understanding of the content of the course (as listed in points 1-5)

4 This is what you should do during the first 2 weeks:
Study the 3D model and decide how you are going to build the building. Which methods, equipment, etc., will you use? And write a method statement (afternoon of 11th September) 2. Do a sketch of the construction site identifying roads, the placement of cabins for workers, for cranes, etc., and identify where you think health and safety issues will arise (see Point 1). The building must be placed on part of the green, park-like area adjacent to the International Globe Building on Campus (Morning of 12th September) 3. Do a WBS for the project using the given bidding form as a basis for the different works packages (concrete works, masonry works, carpentry works) – and remember to include the building site costs! (afternoon of 12th September) 4. Do a quantity take-off for each of the works packages mentioned above. (Morning and afternoon of 13th September) 5. Do an estimate of your bid using Successive Estimation and the prices given on the 3D model (remember to include the cost of the site roads, cabins, cranes, etc., you identified under Point 2 – to be done on morning of 18th September) 6. You will do a practice assignment on a small house before your main assignment model on afternoon of 14th September 7. Fill-in your bidding forms and submit at the tender of bids on date: morning of 19th Sept. at precisely 10 am 8. Do the scheduling for your project using MS-Project (look at the Tender Time Schedule for the start and finish dates. Remember to put the costs from your estimation into the cost column of the schedule so that you can generate a cash flow chart )- afternoon of 19th – lunchtime, 20th Sept. 9. Do a presentation for the exam of what you´ve done – each student MUST present, and individual grades will be given- afternoon 21st – morning 22nd Sept. Ad 1: Teacher shows 3D model – find typical building component details as examples (Jesper/eml/andre?) Ad.2: teacher shows example of construction site layout (Jesper?) Ad 3: ask students to use mind manager or mind view Ad 5: eml goes through Sigma and price book Ad 7: eml repeats construction time schedule and follow-up, including cashflow Ad 8: eml shows how students should study about follow-up using link til CAM digital

5 This is what you should do during the self-study week:
(use instruction videos, etc.) 10. Follow-up the schedule for your project (see video) – 25th -26th Sept., 2017 11. Do a complete payment plan using interim certificates (see video),….. and Submit a 10 minute presentation video to teacher about follow-up and payment plan (points 10 and 11 above) by loading it up to this cloud: Username: student Password: student Each student in group must speak in the video! Submission date: 27th Sept.,2017, at 12 pm. Chinese time

6 Plan of building site: scale – each building is 22,48 m. long International Building Plan

7 Layout of buildings on plot

8 Buildings seen from North-East

9 Plan of building plot

10 Each group must do the following:
1) Do a Work Breakdown Structure for the building 2) Calculate the construction costs of the building: 3) Do a schedule in MS-Project based on the unit times. See Revit drawings for prices and times Concrete works: Outer wall foundations Inner wall foundations Terrain slab (with tile floor surface) Masonry works Outer cavity wall Inner walls Carpentry works: Windows Outer doors Internal doors Cassette roof construction Small Assignment for 14th September 2017 Presentation on Friday afternoon of 15th September
