1 Parents caught holding children captive

2 Police arrested a California couple (David Turpin, 57, and Louise Turpin, 49), accused of essentially holding their 13 children captive in their own home. Some of the siblings, who range in age from 2 to 29, were shackled to beds with chains and padlocks in filthy conditions. On Sunday, a 17-year-old girl managed to escape from their home in Perris, California, and called 911 from a cell phone she found in the house. She claimed her 12 brothers and sisters were being held captive inside the home by her parents. To police she "appeared to be only 10 years old and emaciated." The other 12 also appeared malnourished and dirty. Even the adults looked like children. The parents were charged with torture and child endangerment and each held on $9 million bail. This is a very strange story with many unanswered questions because the family also apparently went on vacation together, had yearly passes to Disneyland and projected an image of a picture perfect family on social media.

3 In Other News A Japanese national broadcaster issued an on-air apology Tuesday after issuing an alert incorrectly claiming that North Korea had launched a ballistic missile. The broadcaster apologized for the error. The mistake was corrected within minutes. Tuesday's false missile alert was the second in a matter of days. On Saturday, an emergency alert notification sent out to residents of Hawaii warning of an incoming "ballistic missile threat" turned out to be a false alarm. The error was blamed on an employee who "pushed the wrong button.” More than 1,000 young people in Denmark have been charged with "distribution of child pornography" after sexual content featuring 15-year-olds was circulated online. The police launched an investigation following a tip-off from Facebook about two videos and a "sexually explicit" image that were being circulated by mostly teenage social media users across Denmark. A spokesperson for Facebook said: "Our systems run in the background and automatically remove and report intimate content involving children to (the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children) in the US, who in turn will review and dispatch the relevant information to the right law enforcement agencies across the globe.” Many jurisdictions have taken a tough line on the dissemination of explicit images and videos starring people under 18, regardless of the age of those doing the sharing. Dolores O'Riordan, the lead singer of the Irish band The Cranberries, died in London on Monday. O'Riordan, who was 46, died "suddenly" according to the statement, but no details were given on the cause of her death. The EAGLES advanced to the NFC Championship game to be played this Sunday at home. Simone Biles says #MeToo. The Olympic gymnast, who won four gold medals at the Rio Games, took to Twitter to accuse USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar of sexually abusing her.
