ENV Databases based on European cohort studies and their exploitation for advancement of knowledge of environment-health relationships. ENRIECO: Environmental Health Risks in European Birth Cohorts. Start March 2009. HEALTH HEALTH : Birth/Mother - Child Cohorts co-ordination. … identify key areas and gaps in knowledge and develop recommendations for research action at the European level in the context of child health. CHICOS: Developing a Child Cohort Research Strategy for Europe. Start Jan 2010. What will ENRIECO Inventory add to this?

4 ENRIECO Aim: to advance our knowledge on specific environment and health causal relationships in pregnancy and birth cohorts by providing support to exploitation of past or ongoing studies. Objectives: Make inventories of birth cohorts: health data, exposure data, biological samples environmental exposure response functions, expertise, access Evaluate exposure, health and exposure-response data Make recommendations Project Coordinator: Mark Nieuwenhuijsen (CREAL) 8 Partners > 30 European Birth Cohorts What will ENRIECO Inventory add to this?

8 CHICOS Aim: To develop an integrated strategy for mother-child cohort research in Europe  to feed into future call(s) in FP7 and beyond… Objectives: To update/extent the inventory To evaluate existing information from cohorts on child health outcomes and determinants: Identify gaps in knowledge, geographical coverage, … Develop recommendations for research action Focus on key areas of policy concern To review link between child cohort research and policy and make recommendations to improve the contribution of mother-child cohort research to policy at European level

9 CHICOS Outcome Themes Perinatal outcomes
Asthma, respiratory health, allergies Obesity, vascular and metabolic health Neuro-cognitive and behavioural development Accidents and injuries Infectious diseases Childhood cancer Determinant Themes Social/cultural determinants and inequalities Nutrition and physical activity Life-style exposures Environmental exposures Biobanks and genetics Multiple determinants (integrated risk assessment) Input from all interested cohorts: workshops, working groups,...
