Objective Today I will be able to: Analyze how metals emit different amounts of energy when heated by completing a flame test. Evaluation/ Assessment Informal assessment – Listening to group interactions and discussions during the flame test lab. Formal Assessment – Analyzing student responses to the flame test lab questions and to the exit ticket.

Warm - up Take out your Flame Test Lab Procedures that were given out last class Read over the procedures and choose a partner to work with for the lab!

Agenda Warm – Up Flame Test Lab Safety Flame Test Lab Exit Ticket

Flame Test Lab Safety Must wear goggles, aprons, closed toe shoes, tie long hair back, no baggy clothing 9 stations that you will rotate through Must follow Mr. Klotz’s instructions When directed you will Move to the station Turn on the gas and light the Bunsen burner Mr. Klotz will turn out the lights You will place 1 wooden splint soaked in a metallic salt in the flame and observe the color change Mr. Klotz will turn the lights on You will record your observations on your worksheet When Mr. Klotz says so, you will rotate Failure to follow the directions or any horseplay will result in removal from the lab.

Flame Test Lab Pick your partner!
Once you find your partner head to your station and put on goggles and your apron.

Exit Ticket You have been hired as a pyrotechnician at Phantom fireworks. You have been asked to design a new firework with 3 different colors. How would you design the firework so that when it went off you would have 3 different colors? Draw a picture of your design
