“Bug of the month “ Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Gram negative bacilli)
Most commonly associated with water. “Opportunistic pathogen”, takes advantage of lowered defense systems of the host. Can be commonly resistant to multiple antimicrobial agents. Associated with outbreaks on healthcare systems. Prevent the spread !!!! Hand hygiene before and after patient care. Clean shared equipment with hospital approved disinfectant. Use “contact isolation” (gloves and gowns) if patient has a “resistant” pseudomonas culture, call infection prevention nurses.
