What is the difference?

6 Safeguarding A broad term and team approach encompassing:
Safe recruitment Managing children’s behaviour Health and safety – e safety Anti – bullying Meeting the needs of children with medical conditions RSE /PD Drugs and substance abuse

7 Child Protection One important aspect of safeguarding and promoting welfare – an activity undertaken to protect specific children who are suffering or at risk of suffering significant harm as a result of abuse

High quality self evaluation to promote improvement in safeguarding and pastoral care is carried out annually Annual high quality professional training by DT / DDT / Safeguarding Team for all staff – not just ‘more of the same’ Revising the Child Protection Policy annually (before ratification by BOG) Recording Procedures reviewed by Safeguarding Team and communicated to all staff

A Safeguarding Flyer (including raising a concern/ making a complaint) shared with staff, parents and students on an annual basis Development of key posters for display in classrooms – produced in Child Friendly /Target language that outline for the children how they can safeguard themselves Clear safeguarding/ child protection policies and procedures in place which are shared with children, staff , parents/ carers and external agencies Appropriate actions from risk assessments are implemented

The learning environment is welcoming, supportive and secure for all children Appropriate checks on visitors in place to prevent unsuitable people having access to school / grounds The school has posters on notice boards displaying the names and photographs of the safeguarding team Time is taken to consult with children and parents on safeguarding arrangements

Additional information on a range of support agencies is displayed There is effective cooperation with external agencies There are clear updated policies for consistent management of incidents of bullying and the promotion of positive behaviour There are clear procedures, fully implemented, for the recruitment, selection and vetting of all staff All designated staff, Principal and Governors are appropriately trained by CPSS

13 Safeguarding: Best Practice
Children feel safe and secure in school and are encouraged in learning sessions to take responsibility for their own safety (including e- safety) and that of others Children know where personal concerns can be addressed and feel confident in approaching those sources The content and delivery of the preventative curriculum is given high priority
