2 Why are we learning about this?
Well, your prompt say that: “Using research, write a paper that utilizes 5-7 sources to answer a question about a chosen topic. You are writing a persuasive paper with a strong, supportable, specific, and narrowed thesis statement”. Additionally, being able to use persuasive techniques in writing and speech is a valuable skill that can be used to make an argument

3 Persuasive Techniques Pre-Assessment
On your notes, number from 1 to 3. Identify the persuasion techniques used in the arguments below, by labeling them as [E] ethos, [P] pathos, or [L] logos. Explain why you believe that utilize that particular technique. “Mr. Middleton, you know that I am a good student. I have an A in this class, I participate, and I always do my homework. If you let me make up the quiz, I won’t let you down again”. “Mr. Middleton, you have to let me make up the quiz! I couldn’t read last night because my brother was sick and he was throwing up every where and I had to clean it up off the floor, the walls, and the toilet. It was so disgusting, but someone had to do it”. “Mr. Middleton, I need to make up this quiz because if I don’t I will get a zero and my grade will suffer”.

Next, on your paper, write down at least one use of all types of persuasion - ethos, pathos, and logos – they used to make their argument. Finally, on your paper, write down at least one use of all types of persuasion - ethos, pathos, and logos – they used to make their argument.

14 Challenge Using your knowledge of persuasive techniques, write a short blurb to convince me NOT to buy either the Slap Chop or Campbell’s Soup Select Harvest Use at least 2 of the persuasive techniques. Label your work either e, p, or l where the persuasive techniques appear in your blurb.

Find a partner (beside/behind/in front) Divide up the prompts with your partner. You each need 3 different prompts. Make the argument for your chosen 3 topics. Write down your arguments. Label the parts of the argument with an e [ethos], p [pathos] or l [logos].
