4 Edinburgh World famous city that is home to over 505,000 people and over 240,000 households City contains three universities and a World Heritage Site Population broadly doubles during major festivals (Fringe and Winter Festival) 60% of housing stock is high density/tenemental

5 City of Edinburgh and Pitney Bowes
Confirm On Demand, Confirm Workzone and Confirm Connect have been used since 2013 Renewal of contract in 2018 for a further 5 years System used by over 250 employees concurrently across a range of Place Management services Environment Agency Flood Carriageway Condition Gully Enquiries Accidents Custom Area (e.g. Parish) Spatial Queries Confirm Gullies Confirm Defects Live Gully Status Grass Verges Structures

6 Place Management - Services
Responsible for maintenance of public realm and local environment Waste Collection Street Cleansing Parks, Greenspace and Cemeteries Roads Maintenance Roads Infrastructure (including lighting and structures)

7 What do we use Confirm for?
Asset inventory Customer enquiries (via integration with corporate CRM) Inspections of assets (reactive and scheduled) Raising of defects from inspections and enquiries Allocation of works orders (Confirm WorkZone) Tracking of works orders resulting from defects (for both internal services and external contractors) Analysis of asset and performance data

8 Single view of assets Allows us to break down organisational siloes and focus on structuring work functionally Highlights how different public realm assets and teams impact on each other Identifies opportunities to resolve multiple enquiries/defects in consolidated schemes (capital and revenue) Can highlight the cause of issues more easily using data as opposed to local/captive knowledge

9 Using asset data to deliver efficiencies
Clarity of ownership of assets delivers quick answers and reduces reputational damage (don’t take the blame for something that isn’t your fault!) Allows more ‘right first time’ resolution through automating processes directly from asset data e.g. allowing street lighting electricians to turn up quickly to jobs with the correct stock Data driven approach to asset management becomes possible as we layer our own inventory on top of other data Enhancing asset monitoring through the introduction of IoT capability

10 Next steps for Edinburgh
Rollout of new energy efficient lanterns on 64,000 columns over 30 months alongside investment in a Central Management System (CMS) Use of the LoRaWAN network provided by the CMS to rollout further ‘smart infrastructure’ using ERDF funding: Smart waste – litter bins and communal bins Gully sensors Air quality sensors Integration to Confirm using IoT connector capability to raise defects and works orders Progression of a business case to allow the consolidated monitoring of all assets and data in a City Operations Centre
