Viruses Are they alive ?
2
Why would some scientists debate that a virus was living?
What is a Virus? A non – living, infectious particle made only of a strand of DNA or RNA surrounded by a protein coat. This protein coat is known as a capsid. Why would some scientists debate that a virus was living?
3
Why are viruses considered non-living?
Viruses can not reproduce on their own. A host cell is needed for a virus to reproduce and make proteins.
4
A virus is referred to as a pathogen

How do Viruses make us sick?
Viruses cause 2 types of infections. Use your book and write the analogies used to describe each. Refer to pg 549
7
How do you protect yourself from a virus?
Get Vaccinated!!
8
What are Microbes? Microbes are tiny organisms that can only been seen under a microscope. They are EVERYWHERE and can be both beneficial and harmful. E Coli Oil Eating Bacteria
9
Archaebacteria & Eubacteria
Characteristics of Bacteria Bacteria are microbes. Domains: Archae & Bacteria Kingdoms: Archaebacteria & Eubacteria Prokaryotic Cells: cells without a defined nucleus and cell organelles Unicellular Organisms Microorganisms Cyanobacteria
10
Peptidoglycan Helps classify the 2 bacteria kingdoms.
Eubacteria has peptidogycan in the cell wall. Gram stains purple. Archaebacteria does not have peptidoglycan in the call wall. Gram stains pink. Archaebacteria Eubacteria
