Native Americans felt trapped between the two nations They were friendlier with the French Native American tribes were on both sides of the upcoming war

6 French and Indian War Begins!
French and Indian War in North America, Seven Years War in Europe Tensions over the Ohio River Valley caused the English to send a letter to a French commander warning the French to leave the area. The letter is carried by………

8 How Washington Starts a War
The letter sent with Washington is rejected, Washington returns to Virginia, and is sent out again to reinforce the building of a fort at the start of the Ohio River. On the way he learns that the French have already built a fort there and are in the area. Washington surprises a French camp and attacks, the French scatter Washington learns the French are planning a counter-attack and builds Fort Necessity

9 Fort Necessity Fort Necessity is thrown together quickly
French surround it, Washington surrenders and get released later

10 The Albany Congress Summer 1754-Delegates from the 7 northern colonies meet to discuss Native American alliances and uniting the colonies to fight Benjamin Franklin creates the Albany Plan of the Union, which called for the colonies to unite under a president appointed by the king. Each colony would also send two delegates for a Grand Council to make laws. (create one government) The delegates approved the plan, but every colonial government rejects its. This plan gets reused later 

11 England tries to go on the attack
1755-General Braddock marches 1500 men to attack Fort Duquesne Braddock has no experience fighting in North America and is too stubborn to listen to his advisors, including George Washington Braddock and his men are ambushed by the French and Indians, Braddock has 5 horses shot out from under him and is eventually killed 1000 English soldiers are killed The next two years go terribly for England, they lose multiple battles and forts.

13 England Starts Winning
1757- William Pitt becomes the head of the British Government, decides that focusing on the American part of the Seven Year War is the first step to winning the rest of it Pitt sends England’s best generals to North America and offers money to any colonists who gives supplies or serves in the army 1758- Major General Amherst takes over Louisburg, one of the most important cities in French Canada. The English also take over Fort Duquesne

14 The Battle of Quebec James Wolfe Marquis de Montcalm

15 Quebec General James Wolfe is sent out to capture Quebec, the capital of New France Quebec is very important to New France, it is heavily guarded, and is built on steep cliffs. The commanding general is one of France’s best Wolfe realizes that fighting the French head on would be a disaster He has his men climb the steep cliffs at night an assemble outside the city The French wake up to 4000 British soldiers ready to fight

17 The Treaty of Paris Losing Quebec cripples the French in North America, they lose the Seven Years War The Treaty of Paris is signed in 1763, the French give up their territory in North America
