Forming Small Groups based on Data

What do small groups look like?
Groups of children (6 or fewer) that are formed based on similar instructional needs. Group memberships need to change frequently based upon analyzing updated data. You may have heard them referred to as “flexible skill groups,” “flex groups,” etc… Explain “frequently” – Every time you assess a student, and there is a change/improvement, you need to consider changing his group. Part of DQ 1, establishing and communicating learning goals, includes using a variety of assessments.

How do I form small groups?
Use the most recent literacy data. Use more than one assessment data by using a Matrix format. Always use text level when determining reading material. Plot students and group up to 6 students with common elements. Watch Video:
