What is a Watershed? It is as simple as asking --- “If a drop of rain lands on a spot, where will it go (flow)?” A watershed is a geographic area draining to a common stream, lake or river. Watersheds can be little or big ---sometimes really big. Albemarle County Public Schools

One way to find out is to look and see what lives in the river. What types of organisms (living things) can we find in the river? At the river, we will be collecting macroinvertebrates. What are macroinvertebrates? Albemarle County Public Schools

How do we collect these critters?
We use special nets to catch the critters. Then we carefully look for the critters as they squirm around in the net. Albemarle County Public Schools
