Read the article on your own. Answer the guiding questions on the side. We will discuss the article as a class.

Paraphrase - What is the author’s thesis/ controlling idea) and what reasons do they give for their opinion?
Observe- What evidence does the author give to support their argument? What words /phrases seem important?
Contextualize - What is the historical, social, literary, biographical, and/or cultural context?
Analyze - Make inferences about your observation and the context of the piece. What is the purpose?
Argue – do you agree with the author’s message?
