1 Day 1: Evaluating Expressions and Solving Trig Functions
Unit 5: Trigonometric Functions

2 Warm Up 1 1. Evaluate (plug in x) the following functions: a) 3x+2 for x = 4 b) 4x3 +3x2 +5x -6 for x = -2 2. Solve the following equations: a) 3x + 3 = 9 b) 3x2 = 147

3 Unit 5: Trig Functions Essential Question #1
What is a Trigonometric Function and how can I use them to evaluate expressions and solve equations?

4 Trigonometric Functions
Trigonometric Functions are another type of function (like quadratic, exponential, linear, etc). “Trig” Functions are very useful, especially with angles and triangles. We will explore these applications throughout this unit, but today our goal is simply to be introduced to them and use them to evaluate expressions and solve equations.

5 Guided Notes Follow along as we complete our Guided Notes
See handout and solutions online

6 Exploring Angle Restrictions
Some of our trig functions have patterns and restrictions. In your pairs, complete the chart on the back of your Guided Notes to explore these patterns and restrictions. Time Keeper: 10 minutes

7 Patterns and Restrictions
What do you notice about the sine column? Describe the pattern. What do you notice about the cosine column? Describe the pattern.  What do you notice about the tangent column? Describe the pattern.

8 Independent Practice Evaluating and Solving Practice
