COMMISSION REGULATION (EC) No1249/2008 Article 39: Member States shall take all necessary measures: - to ensure the accuracy of the prices reported

Scope and procedure of inspection checking the correctness of price reporting (beef) - purchase price of slaughter cattle; - number of slaughtered cattle and the corresponding number of tonnes of cold carcass weight, corrected by factors laid down in the EU regulations to obtain the EU reference presentation

Scope and procedure of inspection to verify in particular: - the compliance of data used for preparation of the report with the slaughterhouse documentation

Scope and procedure of inspection check the data for a specific reporting week (randomly selected) - classifiers reports or a printout concerning slaughtering during the inspected week (eartag number, class of conformation and class of fat cover, warm carcass weight); - VAT invoice or receipt, or proof of the delivery or receipt of live cattle for storage prepared according to eartag numbers;

What to verify? - if the operator reports beef carcass prices; check the carcass presentation used in the abattoir if carcass weight was appropriately corrected to reference presentation - if warm carcass weight was appropriately corrected to cold carcass weight

What to verify? - if the abattoir used up-to-date calculation of cattle transport costs - if the operator used up-to-date calculation of additional payments - if price report covers cattle purchased on the basis of warm carcass weight and live weight - if data reports cover cattle from own stock

- if price reports cover cattle purchased for flat-rate price – omit (if flat-rate purchases account for less than 35 % of total slaughterings of adult bovine animals in the Member State, it may decide not to take the prices for such purchases into account in the calculations) - if price reports cover cattle slaughtered for official health reasons (sub- standard) - omit - if price reports cover imported cattle -omit What to verify?

Member States’ annual reporting to the European Commission No later than 15 April each year, Member States shall forward to the Commission: a confidential list of slaughterhouses which record prices, whether under Article 15(1)(a) or (b), indicating the throughput of adult bovine animals for each slaughterhouse, expressed in numbers and, if possible, in tonnes deadweight, in the previous calendar year;

Member States’ annual reporting to the European Commission (b) a confidential list of natural or legal persons who record prices, whether under Article 15(1)(c) or (d), indicating the number of adult bovine animals, if possible expressed also in tonnes deadweight, sent for slaughter by them in the previous calendar year; (c) a list of the regions for which prices are recorded and the weighting attached to each under Article 16(6);

Member States’ annual reporting to the European Commission (d) the total number of adult bovine animals slaughtered in the previous calendar year broken down for each category, conformation and fat cover classes.
