Travel planning, costs, creation of itineraries and the suitability of transport matched to customer needs Travel planning and creation of itineraries involves researching travel routes Transport options and considering the potential advantages and disadvantages matched for suitability for different types of customers

2 Travel Planning C1 Sources of information for travel planning and potential advantages and disadvantages of transport options Sources of information: maps, atlases, brochures, travel guides, websites, timetables, travel agents, visitor centres, tourist boards, government advice. • Convenience: direct services, length of journey, total cost of journey, transfers, connections and transit, number of changes, waiting times, stopovers. • Timings: 24-hour clock, adjustments for travel across time zones, direction of travel (east–west, or west–east), Prime/Greenwich Meridian and International Date Line. • Services and level of comfort: food, drink, entertainment, communications, choice of travel class, seating, legroom. • Safety and security: reliability, safety record, previous incident measures, training, evacuation, baggage checks, transit, CCTV, security personnel. • Risk assessments: identifying potential risk/danger, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO)advice, preventing accident/injury, contingency plans.

4 Travel Planning Task 1 You need plan the travel arrangements and include the following information: A hotel or other accommodation in your destination How you will get to the airport (Cost of taxi, bus, train, parking) Name of airport Name of airline and IATA code Details of flight (include entertainment, food, length of journey, cost of journey, any stopovers, transfers to your final destination, any flight changes) Provide costings for economy, business and first class (if available) For each level of class make comparisons on leg room, food, entertainment, level of comfort Time you leave, depart & arrive Time differences and direction of travel (do you cross the International date line?)

5 Travel Planning Task 2 For each of your travel plans, you need to research about the safety & security and include the following information: Reliability Safety record Previous incident measures What training staff have Evacuation procedures How baggage is checked Is there any CCTV, security personnel?

6 Travel Planning Task 3 For one of your travel plans, you need to plan and include the following information: Risk assessments: identifying potential risk/danger (You will need to complete a Risk Assessment) Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advice for travelling to that particular area Preventing accident/injury, contingency plans if there are any major issues (e.g. volcanic eruption, terrorist attack
