3. Notes: Thesis Every good thesis has three parts:
Claim: directly answers the question.
Method Statement: states the most important reasons why that answer is correct.
Warrant: states the logic of the argument. Why does it concentrate on some parts of the question rather than others? What does it compare?

4. Example Thesis
What was the most important factor in allowing Europeans to conquer the Americas?
Claim: Europe’s superior technology
Method Statement: this technology was the most important factor in most of the battles between European and American opponents.
Warrant: this essay looks at the impact of each factor on particular battles because that allows the assessment of specific examples rather than generalized statements.

5. Notes: Warrants
Most essays, especially in high school, don’t actually write their warrant.
Writing down your warrant forces you to maintain a good logical basis for your argument.
If your warrant doesn’t make sense, it’s a good chance your argument doesn’t either.

Think about what the prompt is asking and potential ways you could answer that prompt.
