The Sun By Chrisha Andujar, Aylin Gonzalez and Ivan Reynolds

2 Facts about the Sun The Sun was born nearly five billion years ago from a cloud of gas and dust The Sun produces its own light, heat, and energy. The Sun is by far the largest object in the Solar System. Without it, no life could exist on Earth. The Sun is so large that the Earth could easily fit inside the Sun a million times.

3 In our solar system, eight planets circle around our Sun.
The Sun sits in the middle while the planets travel in circular paths (called orbits) around it. These planets travel in the same direction (counter- clockwise looking down from the Sun's north pole). the Earth orbits the Sun once a year

4 Layers of the Sun The innermost layer after the core is the radiation zone, where most of the energy is light. Next is the convection zone, where the energy is mostly heat. The Sun's surface is called the photosphere. Just like Earth, the Sun has an atmosphere, but it isn't made up of air.

5 The burning star The sun is the closest star to the earth

6 Seasons As the earth revolves around the sun, the angle the earth presents to the sun changes, giving each hemisphere longer or shorter days, depending which way the earth is tilted at the time, and helping to cause the seasons.
