Interactions with students of CNR: Altruistic behaviour CNR students collected some money among themselves and faculty members and offered to two old women who had a difficult lives in the village. → “In Japan, even when I saw a homeless person on the street, I do not feel anything particularly. But in Bhutan, people always care each other.” → “realized that if you find happiness in helping people, you can increase your own happiness by extending your helping hands to others.”

With a hotel staff in Lobesa “On the day I was leaving Lobesa, I gave my hair clip to a hotel staff who took care of me a lot during my stay. Then, she offered her watch in return. I was ashamed by my behaviour, because the hair clip was the one I bought in a 100 yen shop and I did not feel anything by losing it. In contrast, the watch she offered to me must have been very important for her. I really felt that my mind is very small comparing to hers. I tried to look for something which can reciprocate her, and, before I realised, I was offering my necklace which was my favourite. And I felt tremendous happiness, which was much bigger happiness I experienced before.” Realised that what I learned in Bhutan is true.

Changes happened inside myself: expression of altruism “Everyone behaves in altruistic way, so it was easier for me to do the same.” “Starting reflecting my past behaviour whether I was selfish or not, and felt ashamed of some of the past behaviours.” “Realised that prioritising the happiness of people around me (to my own desire and interest), and finding happiness in other’s happiness is the essence of living together in harmony with others.”

“What I experienced and learned in Bhutan triggered my determination not to take selfish behaviour any more.” “The experiences in Bhutan will stop me feeling jealous about other people.”
