2 LI: To know how the four factors can impact a badminton performance

3 Physical There are lots of different physical factors that can impact your performance in badminton. These can be separated into 3 sub-categories: Fitness Skills Tactics/Composition

4 Fitness When studying this area you will realistically only focus on two or three features. Here are some examples of role related physical fitness requirements that are specific to Badminton: Aerobic endurance (CRE) Suppleness Speed Local muscular endurance Strength Power

5 Fitness Here are some examples of role related skill related fitness requirements that are specific to Badminton: Agility Balance Control/Core Stability Reaction time/Anticipation Coordination

6 Skills A skilful Badminton player will display a diverse repertoire of skill. This repertoire will include evidence of the following: Understanding of skill classification Technical Qualities Special Qualities Quality of Performance Good information processing Kinaesthetic Awareness Awareness of the 3 Stages of Learning

Types of skills The impact on performance of different types of skill and their effectiveness How to collect information about these skills Stages of learning Qualities of effective performance Approaches to develop skills How to monitor performance development Justification of future needs following performance development

8 Tactics and Composition
A model performer in Badminton must have tactical intelligence. This will involve consideration of some/all of the following: Personal strengths and weaknesses Opponents strengths and weaknesses Decision making Creativity Tempo of play Spatial awareness

9 Mental Factors A Badminton player’s ability to cope mentally has a very important impact of their level of performance. The following features help to give them the edge over opponents: Concentration Level of Arousal (under/over) Motivation Decision making Problem solving Attention span Mental toughness Processing information Anticipation Cue recognition Focus of attention

10 Emotional Factors A badminton player is vulnerable to certain emotions during a competitive performance: Happiness/sadness Anger Fear Trust Surprise Good performers must learn to manage their emotions.

11 Managing Emotions Definition:
The ability to control feelings and deal with stress and aggression. It is important to manage your emotions so as to control your: Intolerance and impatience with others Concentration Inability to relax Anxiety Bad temper/ Aggression/lack of emotional control As you can see, if you are unable to manage your emotions it can influence other factors/features of your performace. *Remember all four factors are inter-related. They contribute to your whole performance!*

12 Social Factors Although you will mostly play badminton and analyse you performance individually, there are still some social factors to consider: Competing Working in isolation Taking responsibility for performance Etiquette Respect for yourself and others Codes of conduct/rules Extrinsic motivation Intrinsic motivation
