Introduction Mt. 6:9 Jesus in teaching us to pray begins by directing our minds to our heavenly Father The Scriptures often use the word “Father” when referring the first person of the Godhead

Introduction Jn. 1:18 We can only “see” God as He is revealed in His Word We cannot fully understand God for He is infinite But in the figure of “Father” we can understand His nature

In What Sense Is God Our Father?
He is the Father of all mankind because He is the creator of all mankind Acts 17:28 But the use of “Father” in the N.T. emphasizes a spiritual relationship between God and His people

The church today is God’s family – His sons and daughters Gal. 3:26-28 We belong to a spiritual family over which God is Father and in which we are all brethren

God our Father Braggs We Are Related To God By the new birth we are born into to family of God Jn. 3:3,5 As His child we become more like Him day by day as we grow and mature spiritually God

We Are Related To God We should think as He thinks – love all, even our enemies Do good to all – even those who hate us and despise us 1 Pet. 2:2

Our Father’s Care God is greatly concerned about His children
1 Pet. 5:7 He wants to make us good sons and daughters so we can be fit for eternity

Our Father’s Care God’s love and concern for us is beyond our understanding Jn. 3:16 Rom. 5:8-9

Responsibility Fathers provide for their families
Our heavenly Father provides for us – providing for all of our spiritual needs so that we may be ready to live with Him in eternity 1 Jn. 2:25

Responsibility Heb. 4:16 God has given us His Word to guide us - we in turn are to teach others so that they too may know the blessings of salvation 2 Pet. 1:10 Rom. 6:23

Discipline God loves us, provides for all of our needs and also provides the discipline that we need Heb. 12:6 Heb. 12:11 Heb. 12:7 Our heavenly Father makes no mistakes in His discipline

Discipline The discipline our heavenly Father provides prepares us for eternal life

A Heavenly Father Mt. 6:9 There is a great difference in an earthly parent and our heavenly Father Our heavenly Father is eternal Is. 57:15

Conclusion If we do not make Him our Father now as we live in this life, He will never be our Father If we obey Him now and continue faithful – He will lead us through this life, through death and into eternal glory in heaven
