Think of the – as opposite What is the opposite of 5? What is the opposite of -5? Therefore: -5 = negative 5, -(-5)= 5 So When we see a Double Negative (right next to each other) we make it a positive

Another way to think of it . . . When a bad thing happens to a good person, that’s bad - 4 = -4 When a good thing happens to a bad person that’s bad + (-4) = -4 When a bad thing happens to a bad person, that’s good - ( - 4) = 4
