INTRODUCTION THE NORTH AND SOUTH ECLIPTIC POLES(NEP AND SEP) RESPECTIVELY ARE THE MOST FREQUENTLY OBSERVED REGIONS BY MOST SPACE OBSERVATORIES, DURING MANOEUVRES. A B NEP FROM TARGET A TO TARGET B, THE SPACE TELESCOPE GOES OVER THE NEP OR THE SEP MOST OF THE TIME XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE
5
INTRODUCTION . THE IDEA OF THE SLEW PROJECT IS TO EXPLOIT THESE PATHS
OBTAINING INFORMATION ALL THE TIME . THIS WORK IS DONE USING DATA ACQUIRED WITH THE EPIC-PN CAMERA ON THESE PATHS Epic-pn CCDs THESE PATHS HAVE THE SHAPE OF LONG LINES BETWEEN THE TARGETS, THESE LINES ARE CALLED SLEWS XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE

XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE
PROJECT GOAL PRINCIPAL GOAL: TO GET AN X-RAY SOURCE CATALOG OF THE NORTH AND SOUTH ECLIPTIC POLES WITH THE PRINCIPAL OBSERVATIONAL PARAMETERS OF THEM, AND THE CORRESPONDING IDENTIFICATION (IF POSSIBLE) THERE IS A POSIBILITY TO OBTAIN SOME NEW X-RAY SOURCES DUE TO: HIGHER SENSITIVITY WHEN COMBINING DIFFERENT SLEWS SECONDARY GOAL: TO OBTAIN FROM PREVIOUS CATALOGS IN OTHER FREQUENCIES A SPECTRAL DISTRIBUTION (SED) FOR EVERY SOURCE DETECTED XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE

FINAL CATALOG THE XMM-NEWTON SENDS US THE OBSERVATIONS
INFORMATION PROCESSING SLEWS 1. ONE FOLDER IS CREATED FOR EACH SQUARE AREA IN THE NEP (SEP) 4. SLEWSEARCH ROUTINE: CREATES ONE DEG² IMAGES AROUND THE POSITIONS, AND USES DETECTION CHAINS TO FIND AND STORE THE X-RAY SOURCES 2. PROCESS_POSITION ROUTINE : COLLECTS AND SAVES ALL SLEWS IN 2 DEG OF RADIO 3. MAKE MOSAIC ROUTINE: COMBINES THE SLEWS AND PRODUCES IMAGES AND EXPOSURE MAPS FINAL CATALOG XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE

4. TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE
13
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
THE CARACHTERISTICS OF THE SLEWS: Average 70deg. Long 30deg² area Slews subdivided in 1 deg² Epic -PN camera Typical exposition time ~15 sec. Low background Positional accuracy 8” Energy bands -Total band (0,2-12 Kev) -Soft band (0,2-2 Kev) -Hard band (2-12 Kev) Soft-band Image for Vela SNR using some slews XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE
14
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
THE AREA AROUND THE NEP IS DIVIDED IN 121 SQUARES OF 1 DEG² WHICH WERE ANALIZED INDIVIDUALLY THE CENTRAL POSITION IS THE NEP: NEP POSITION: 18h00m00s r.a. +66º33´39´´ dec. THE TOTAL REGION CONSIDERED IS: to r.a. And to dec. XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE
15
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
THE PRINCIPAL FEATURE OF THIS PROJECT IS THE POSSIBILITY TO OBTAIN HIGH LEVELS OF RESOLUTION AND DETECTION WITH THE SAME INSTRUMENTS AS ALWAYS How? IN THE CROSSING AREAS WITHIN THE SLEWS WE FOUND MORE ACUMULATION OF PHOTONS, SO THE DETECTION INCREASES IN TEN YEARS OF OBSERVATIONS THERE IS A BIG STORE OF INFORMATION TO USE Vela SNR XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE

5. DATA REDUCTION XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE
17
DATA REDUCTION PROCESS_POSITION
PROCESS POSITION SCRIPT SEARCHES AROUD THE REQUESTED POSITION THE CLOSEST SLEWS THAT PASSES OVER A CIRCLE OF 2 DEG RADIO THEN TAKES THESE SLEWS FROM THE DATABASE AND SAVES THEM IN THE CORRESPONDING FOLDER MAKING ALSO A LIST OF THESE SLEWS SETTINGS THE CENTRAL REGION OF THE FIELD CONTAINS MORE NUMBER OF SLEWS THAN THE SURROUNDINGS MORE COMPLETE CATALOG NEAR TO THE NEP XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE
18
DATA REDUCTION MAKE_MOSAIC
ALL THESE SLEWS ARE COMBINED BY THE MAKEMOSAIC ROUTINE LIKE WE MENTIONED BEFORE, FIRST OF ALL THIS SCRIPT DIVIDES A SLEW IN SINGLE IMAGES OF 1DEG² , THEN COMBINES THEM TO PRODUCE IMAGES OF 2 DEG² APROX. AND EXPOSURE MAPS OF THE SAME SIZE THIS IS VERY DIFICULT BECAUSE SLEWS HAVE DIFFERENT ORIENTATIONS XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE
19
XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE
DATA REDUCTION SLEWSEARCH THIS SCRIPT USES THE RESULTING IMAGES AND EXPOSURE MAPS FROM THE MAKEMOSAIC SCRIPT TO SEARCH SOURCES IN THEM FOR THE DETECTING PART IT RUNS THE EBOXDETECT ROUTINE AND SPECIALLY DESIGNED ROUTINES FOR THE SLEW IMAGES THE FINAL PRODUCT IS A LIST OF THE SOURCES WITH DATA THE MOST RELEVANT ARE: RIGHT ASCENSION DECLINATION RELEVANCY OF THE SOURCE FLUXES SOURCE EXTENSION XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE
20
XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE
6. IDENTIFICATION OF SOURCES XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE
21
IDENTIFICATION OF SOURCES
WITH THE SOURCE LIST GIVEN BY SLEWSEARCH LIST SOME OF THE PARAMETERS AND LOOKING INTO THE EXISTING X-RAY CATALOGS LIKE ROSSETA, CHANDRA, ETC SOURCES WILL BE IDENTIFIED BY SEARCHING SOURCES IN THE SAME POSSITION THE CONDITION FOR THE IDENTIFICATION IS: ANGULAR DISTANCE < 0.3 ARCMIN EMISSION IN X-RAY BAND THE POSITION ERROR DEPENDS TOO ON THE EXTENSION OF THE SOURCE, EXTENDED SOURCES HAVE BIGGER ERROR THAN POINT-LIKE ONES XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE

7. RESULTS XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE
23
XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE
RESULTS AT PRESENT THE THERE ARE 171 SOURCES DETECTED IN THE NEP, 20% OF THEM ARE NOT YET IDENTIFIED THESE SOURCES ARE EXPECTED TO BE TOO FAINT SOURCES FOR THE OTHER X-RAY TELESCOPES, SO PROBABLY THEM COULD BE NEW EXAMPLE ZW IS A SOURCE AT r.a. dec. CHARACTERISTICS: 0.318 counts/sec 26.16 of relevance 0.138 of angular distance to requested position 0,033 of Redshift ID: AGN Catalog: Quasars and Active Galactic Nuclei (12th Ed.) (Veron+ 2006) XMM-NEWTON SPACE TELESCOPE
