Impact of Published Worldwide UWB Emission Limits
3.4 GHz Broadband Wireless (future licensed spectrum) The original vision: 3.1 to 10.6 GHz WiMedia Band Group 1 Residue: 7.2 to 8.5 GHz WLAN: 4.9 to 6 GHz (incumbent business interests protected) John Notor, Cadence Design Systems, Inc.

Implications for UWB Technologies
No worldwide coordinated spectrum for the following standards: WiMedia v1.1 – Frequency Hopping OFDM Bluetooth 3.0 – High Rate PHY Based on WiMedia v1.2 at > 6 GHz. IEEE a – Includes a Pulsed UWB PHY No common set of worldwide certification test requirements. WiMedia v1.1 Band Group 1 (3168 to 4752 MHz) specifically hobbled in many countries. Band Group 1 is mandatory in WiMedia v1.1. Most early silicon supported only Band Group 1. Detect and Avoid (DAA) may permit Band Group 1 operation in Europe and Japan, but DAA requirements as yet undefined. John Notor, Cadence Design Systems, Inc.
