TSPC Response Continuing Professional Development (CPD) NO major changes for employed licensed educators Minor change: State (TSPC) does not require educators and districts to keep specific professional development plans Districts still verify Professional Development Units (PDU’s) on the PEER form Nothing has changed with regard to what is acceptable professional development. TSPC Response License Processing Time Catch-up most likely not before February 2014 Things districts can do to help: Only use expedited if actual emergency; Speed up hiring process Should only be used if educator not licensed at all But not to speed up a renewal if active in grace Also not to request special dispensation for educators who have not completed renewal requirements Data Classification Level: 1 -- Published

Working with ODE/HQ Issues HQ coordination with ODE; Work with ODE on HQ trainings HQT and Sp Ed self-contained; HQT and Long Term Care & Treatment (LTCT) programs. TSPC Response Working with ODE/HQ Always an issue when ODE hires new staff; Completely on the same page on nearly all issues Federal law requires all special education teachers teaching content and needing special education licensure meet definition of HQ (fully licensed as SPED teachers; content knowledge) Educators are authorized by the state to teach many subjects federal law says they are not HQ Data Classification Level: 1 -- Published

Web Issues Why doesn't the website show every license that the educator had as they renew them, sometimes there are gaps in years between licenses even though they had a license during that time? Website updates, when does this happen? (midnight versus a later time) – Data Classification Level: 1 -- Published

Reporting Misconduct Reporting Why are license renewals withheld when someone makes a complaint? It gives the appearance of wrongdoing when any person makes a complaint. Guilty until proven innocent. Data Classification Level: 1 -- Published

TSPC Response Reporting Misconduct Why some licenses are not renewed Conduct appears to be serious Can’t renew, then possibly recommend to Commission to take it away There are as many complaints from patrons (community members) as there are from school districts. Nearly 60% (sometimes more) of complaints are dismissed Data Classification Level: 1 -- Published
