2 Vocabulary George Armstrong Custer: He was a U.S. Army officer and cavalry commander in the American Civil War and the American Indian Wars. Sitting Bull: who led his people as a tribal chief during years of resistance to United States government policies. Cavalry: modern soldiers who fight in armored vehicles. Scout: a person sent out to obtain information. Brave: Native American warrior. Sioux: a Native American and First Nations people in North America.

3 Who are the descendants of the first people of North America?
People lived in the North America. It was the Plains Indians. For thousands of years. Their own cultures and languages. Mountains, deserts, valleys, and Prairies. Sioux were the strongest Plains People.

4 Why did the Indians call it the Battle of the Greasy Grass?
Part of Custer’s last stand. People gave honor to dead leader. The valley of thick prairie grasses. It fed their horses. That fed buffalo.

5 How did the Native Americans win the battle of the Little Big Horn?
June 22nd Custer heads out. Crazy horse strikes and not afraid. Custer was caught between Native forces. Most of Custer's family were killed. The Indians won the battle. Indians celebrated victory leaving soldiers dead.

6 Why did the plains people move every year?
They need housing could be dismantled. Packed up. Moved across the northern plains. Rebuilt in the new place. Tepees was made from buffalo hide.

There were seven Lakota groups. The Black Foot, Brule's, Hunk Papa Miniconjou, Oglala, Sans Arcs, Two Kettle. All these people were Lakota Sioux.

The Sioux were angry. The United States army built forts. Their homelands. This army post is Fort By Abraham Lincoln. In South Dakota.

Custer found gold in black hills. Prospectors poured into the area. Boomtowns. 1876.

Custer wanted to built a fort. To see gold. He found both on Indian Land. The town was called Custer.

He was so respected. Courage and Wisdom. He was a star of the show “Wild West Show” ( )

Celebrate their traditional way of life. Families rejoiced their freedom. By the end of June. They gathered on Rosebud Creek Montana.

13 Why did Custer's force approach the native village?
Morning of June 25,1876. Approached the Native village. Planned to surround the camp . Splitting his men into three groups.

14 How did the news of the Battle of the Little Big Horn spread across the country in the early July?
Many people called it the loudly for revenge.
