3. Spelling and sight words
Sight words and spelling work will come home on Mondays and is due on Fridays.

4. Reading homework
Paper books that the students have been practicing will be sent home on Fridays. Please listen to your child read these 3 times and return on Monday.

5. What is a resource Room?
A resource room is a smaller sized classroom where students who have been diagnosed with a disability come to learn. The student must qualify for special education to receive services in a resource room.

6. How does a student qualify for special education services?
In order for a student to qualify he/she must be identified by his/her teacher as a student who is struggling to learn curriculum taught in the general education class. Also your child’s teacher will have sought out resources such as Title or RTI before bringing him/her to the special education team. The teacher and the team discuss your child and decide if the student meets the criteria to warrant further testing by the school psychologist. If the team agrees the child should be tested, the parents will be contacted for further assessment. The school psychologist will then test the student and if he/she meets criteria, then the appropriate special services will be identified through an IEP with the parents.

7. What is an iep
An IEP is an Individual Education Plan that addresses the student’s weaknesses and their specific needs. An IEP includes areas in which the student struggles, goals and objectives, and accommodations. An IEP is good for a year but the plan maybe revisited anytime before that year is up. Every 3 years, if the teachers or parents feel it is necessary, the student will again see the psychologist for updated testing.
