Parent Success Open communication with your student
Respectful communication with school staff (teachers, counselors, etc.) Reasonable expectations of both your student and the high school Shifting responsibilities of student to the student (calls, questions, deadlines, etc.)

Graduation Requirements
26 High School Credits State Assessments Must Pass Reading and Writing HSPE or ELA Must Pass Math Algebra or Geometry EOC If a student has not yet met standard in a subject area, the COE (an alternative) will be discussed with impacted students this year Culminating Presentation/High School Beyond Plan/Portfolio requirements

Portfolio Requirements discussed during Advisory Job Shadow or Career Project is required Proposals due by November 18th (recommended) Completion by January 6 Culminating Presentation Spring 2016 Practice Schedule – To Be Determined Final Presentation - April 21 Power Point Outline/Info will be provided during English class Who am I? (Personal/Social) Where am I going? (College/Career) How am I going to get there? (Academic) Note: All needed materials are available on the AHS Counseling Center's webpage

Manuals distributed and reviewed in English classrooms September 21-22 Culminating Presentation Information Session September 23 – Senior meeting in Brodniak Hall Portfolio and Presentation requirements will be discussed ASVAB December 9 - Brodniak Hall, 7:30 a.m. Free - sign up in Counseling Center in November For students interested in the Armed Service and/or career assessment Financial Aid Night December 3 – Brodniak Hall, 6:30 p.m. Important for parents and students to attend FAFSA – -- Applications cannot be submitted until after January 1. May apply for PIN at in the fall

SAT vs. ACT Standardized Tests to Assess College Readiness
Curriculum Based Assessment (English, Math, Reading & Science) SAT Reasoning Assessment (Critical Reading, Math & Writing) November 7 & June 4 at AHS (other sites/dates available) Deadline for Nov. 8 registration is October 9 Register online at , $54.50 Note: A thorough description of differences is available on the Counseling Center webpage. Fee Waivers are available for students qualifying for F/R

Applying to College Application
Colleges have fully shifted from paper applications to online Process will be outlined during English classes on Sept Admission requirements and deadlines vary from college to college Visit college website for specific details Common Application Over 500 colleges in 47 states use this application Teacher Recommendation is required Counselor Report is also required Note: Counselor Recommendation is no longer required Transcripts are sent electronically by counselors for Common Application only

Official AHS Transcript Complete Transcript Request Form in Registrar’s Office Transcripts will be ready for pick-up in the Registrar’s Office after 24 hours Reminder No need to request transcripts for Common Application! Students should have ownership of transcript requests Letters of Recommendation Give the writer at least three weeks to prepare recommendation A completed Letter of Recommendation Form must be provided to the writer. Available on the Counseling Center webpage Seniors are strongly encouraged to write a thank you note to the writer
