11 In order to serve: Must have the right attitude
Must have the right mindset Must have the right motive

12 Main Text John 13:15-17 Subtext Mark 10:45

13 John 13:15-17 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. (16) Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. (17) If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

14 Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." This text comes after the incident that involved James and John when they asked in verse 37 if they could sit in the place of honor next to Jesus, one on one side and the other on the other side.

15 Powerful Insights Servant is not greater than his master
The one sent is not greater than the one who sent him Jesus came to serve

16 Saved to Serve Training to be like Jesus
a. Luke 6:39-40: “…Students are not greater than their teacher. But the student who is fully trained will become like his teacher.

17 b. Mark 1:19–20 (NKJV) When He had gone a little farther from there, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets. (20) And immediately He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after Him.

18 c. Mark 10:45. 1) Jesus served by giving His life as a ransom for many.

19 Saved to Serve 2. Christ has redeemed us by paying our ransom with His life. (Galatians 3:13-14) a. Jesus paid His life for us to be free. (Titus 2:14/1 Peter 1:18)

20 Titus 2:14 (14) who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

21 1 Peter 1:18 (NKJV) 18 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers,

22 Exodus 21:5-6 (NKJV) 5 But if the servant plainly says, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free,’

23 6 then his master shall bring him to the judges
6 then his master shall bring him to the judges. He shall also bring him to the door, or to the doorpost, and his master shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall serve him forever.

24 If I am free from the law, am I free from all requirements
If I am free from the law, am I free from all requirements? What do I do now?.

25 1 Peter 2:16 (NLT) 16 For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil.

26 Galatians 5:13 (NLT) 13 For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.

27 We begin to become like Him the more I love Him and serve Him!
I don’t serve Jesus Christ out of obligation, I serve Him out of the love that I have for Him! We begin to become like Him the more I love Him and serve Him!

28 4 Things that will impact you in serving

29 1. Be careful what you hear.
a. Mark 4:23 b. It will impact your life 2. The Word of God functions like seed. a. Luke 8:1-8 b. “He who has ears let him hear.”

30 3. The New Covenant is here!
a. Matthew 11:15 4. The lukewarm life is not acceptable. a. Luke 14:34-35

31 Do you love Him (Jesus) enough to come serve Him even after he sets your free? His example is plain: He wants you to give your life as a ransom for many. He paid the price, you carry the message that the price has been paid.

32 Servant Servant is not defined by the degrees one has, the monetary stature he or she has attained or the material things that he/she has required Servanthood is a condition of the heart and mind and the attitude that one portrays
