Humanists suggested that people might enjoy life without offending God In Renaissance Italy, wealthy enjoyed material luxuries, good music & fine foods Ex: Mansions, fancy clothes, parties Basic spirit of Renaissance Society was Secular People concerned with worldly issues rather than religious/spiritual 3

The Renaissance Man Renaissance writers introduced idea that all educated people were expected to create art Ideal individuals strived to master every area of study Man who excelled in many fields was called a Renaissance Man Baldassare Castiglione said that a young man should dance, sing, play music, write poetry, be a skilled writer, wrestler, & swordsman 4
