What does purple/violet symbolize?
Part of me is brilliant yellow (metaphor!)
lively and vivacious
bouncy and buoyant (alliteration: repletion of consonants)
teasing my friends and
enjoying the spotlight
But deep inside there’s another part,
pale purple, like a violet (simile)
hiding under a leaf-
shy and self-conscious
fearful and cowardly,
shaking with stage fright when the telephone rings.
Yet they’re both very real,
and they’re both me!

Simile: A comparison between two unlike things, using a word such as like, as, than, or resembles.
ex. Her face was as round as a pumpkin.
ex. She is as sweet as a peach
Metaphor: An imaginative comparison between two unlike things in which one thing is said to be another thing.
ex. “I wandered as lonely as a cloud” = simile
ex. “I was a lonely wandering cloud” = metaphor
She has a pumpkin face.
You must have both a simile and a metaphor in your color poem.
You must have either alliteration or assonance.
 Alliteration: the repetition of a consonant.
Ex. Sally sold seashells Green grass grew,
Assonance: repetition of a vowel sound.
Ex. The mean wife screams in her dreams
Bonus points for personification, giving human traits to something not human.
