The current portfolio exists of the highly functional potato protein isolates, Solanic®200 & Solanic®300. Both isolates were launched by Avebe in Since then, these functional isolates have proven themselves in numerous applications as unique ‘free from’ texturizing proteins by replacing gelatin in foamed confectionary; egg white in meat analogues; or gluten in bread.

These DIAAS values are based on the ‘Child’ AA scoring pattern (Table 5) as recommended by FAO experts - FAO paper No.92 (2013)
The DIAAS for Solanic100 is 102% (Histidine is the ‘limiting’ AA)
The child AA scoring pattern is THE recommended scoring pattern for ALL age-groups, expcept infants.
Higher DIAAS values are often reported by soy, pea or rice protein suppliers.
Please note, however, that these values are based on the ‘less strict’ AA scoring pattern for adults.
This results in values that are typically 20-25% higher than values based on the child AA scoring pattern.
E.g. the DIAAS value for Solanic100 based on the adult AA scoring pattern is 128%
The FAO-experts recommended to only the DIAAS values for all age groups (except infants) based on the child AA scoring pattern. Food for infants has its own (very strict) AA scoring pattern.
It is expected that global food law (e.g. FDA, EFSA, Codex Alimentarius) will adopt these recommendations within the next few years to clearly label protein quality on consumer products

Solanic100N = Neutralized version (pH 6-8) – e.g. used for high protein claims in baked goods
Solanic100T = Texturizing version (pH 8-10) – e.g. used in processed meat in combination with potato starch to provide cost-effective clean label solutions
Potassium carbonate (K2CO3) is used in the production process to adjust the pH of the 100N and 100T products.
During the reaction with potato protein, all potassium carbonate is converted to potassium (K, a nutritional mineral), water (H20) and carbon dioxide (CO2). The latter two are removed from the protein powder during drying.
All products can simply be labeled as ’potato protein’
The surprisingly higher waterbinding capacity at pH >8 has been patented by Avebe (ref. Avebe patent EP B1).
This pH adjustment gives 100T its texturizing capacity.
