THE PENTECOST CALL TO WORSHIP
[ Pastor / CONGREGATION ] The Holy Spirit is God active with us and within us; PRAISE GOD FOR THE MYSTERY OF HIS SPIRITUAL PRESENCE; The Holy Spirit speaks to us in ways that are unique and special for each person. PRAISE GOD FOR THE MARVEL OF HIS COMMUNICATION WITH US;
8
The Holy Spirit comes to us in the alarm clock,
waking us to a new, unlived day; PRAISE GOD FOR NEW OPPORTUNITIES TO LIVE, GROW AND LEARN. The Holy Spirit comes to us in the advertisements of creation: PRAISE GOD FOR LIGHT AND WISDOM, INGENUITY AND IMAGINATION;
9
The Holy Spirit comes to us
in the street signs of our lives: STOP AND GO, YIELD AND CAUTION; The Holy Spirit shakes us and wakes us and helps us to think, feel, care, and love; SO LET US PRAISE OUR GOD: FATHER, SON AND HOLY SPIRIT!
10
THE OPENING HYMN: #390 SPIRIT OF GOD DESCEND UPON MY HEART
11
Spirit of God, descend upon my heart; Wean it from earth; through all its pulses move; Stoop to my weakness, mighty as You are, And make me love You as I ought to love.
12
Have You not bid me, love You God and King? All of my own, soul, heart and strength and mind. I see Your cross; there teach my heart to cling. O let me seek You, and O let me find.
13
Teach me to feel that You are always near; Teach me the struggles of my soul to bear. To check the rising doubt, the rebel sigh, Teach me the patience of unanswered prayer.
14
Teach me to love You as Your angels love, One holy passion filling all my frame; The kindling of the heav’n-descended Dove, My heart an altar, and Your love the flame.
15

THE SCRIPTURE FOR PENTECOST Read by Elder Roy Palk, J.D.
Acts 2:1-13 Read by Elder Roy Palk, J.D. When the day of Pentecost had come, they [the disciples] were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue [of fire] rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
24
Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them [the disciples] speaking in the native language of each. Amazed and astonished, they asked, "Are not all these who are speaking uneducated Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language, Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome,
25
both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs
both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs in our own languages, we hear them speaking about God's deeds of power.“ All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, "What does this mean?“ But others sneered and said,"They are filled with new wine."
