Character and Virtue Definitions

What is character? What does character mean? Having a good character?

In small groups… Describe your perfect person. Not physically, but morally. What kind of characteristics would they have? Would they be kind, helpful? One person from each group will present the group’s answers to the class. You have ten minutes.

What did we find? I think we can all agree that we look for individuals who are kind and helpful. Strong emotionally. We all want someone who is good to us and to the people around them. No one grows up saying “I want to marry someone who will be mean to me.”

Character Character is who we really are and who we are becoming through our choices and actions. We are the product of our experiences; what we choose to do and what we choose not to do. Our character develops by how we approach events and how we deal with them. A growing icicle

Virtue Healthy, good habits that help us do good and empower us to become what God wants us to be. Personal qualities  think of someone you look up to, it’s the reason why you look up to them. Virtues form our character Honesty, patience, kindness

Theological Virtues Virtues given to us by God to live good lives.
Every human being has these. There are Three Theological Virtues: Faith, Hope and Charity.
