2 Table of Contents Problem Statement Solution Intended Design

3 Problem Statement Drone use in rescue operations is increasing
Benefits of drones: Move faster than humans Can reach otherwise unreachable areas Can fly Can fit through small spaces Disposable and replaceable Can take more risks Can survive hazardous environments

4 Problem Statement (cont.)
Current disadvantages of drones: Drones are limited by their ability to receive commands Fully autonomous rescue drones aren’t viable yet Requires a human operator Limited areas Building interiors Sewers Caves & caverns Rubble After 9/11, rescue robots were tested at Ground Zero Limited by 100 ft tether for direct connection

5 Solution Network access to the drones can be extended
Routing nodes could be set up in key nexus points for rescue and event reporting Better connected drones can perform higher bandwidth tasks e.g. video streaming, process complex maneuvers

6 Intended Design Physical Controller with XBee Radio module receiver/transmitter Vehicle segment XBee Radio module Processing Control Unit Motor/Wheel Control Power supply circuitry Vehicle design applies to other two segments ZigBee Com protocol

7 Questions? ZigBee Com protocol
