La Vie This masterpiece is among the largest and most complex paintings from Picasso's Blue Period, dating from 1901 to 1904. Painted in Barcelona, La Vie remains one of the key works in the many outputs of paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, and pottery of this dominant visual artist of the twentieth century. La Celestina In his early career, Picasso worked and lived in Paris, Barcelona, and Madrid. His early paintings were melancholy and featured the color blue, so this period is referred to as his "blue period." Picasso's "blue period," (1901 to 1904), was followed by his "rose period," (1904-1906), during which Picasso used warmer colors in his paintings. La Celestina 1904
